The Newport Public Education Foundation has announced the recipients of its annual Noreen Stonor Drexel Education Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations that make a significant contribution to Newport Public School students.

This year’s recipients are:

  • Friends of Education: Douglas and Nancy Horsey
  • Education Partner: Newport Restoration Foundation
  • Unsung hero of education: Kathleen Silvia

Prizes will be presented at the Foundation’s Fall Friends Drive, scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 24 at Sail Newport. The event will also celebrate Newport Public School‘s newest Teacher of the Year: Angela Johnson, Social Science Teacher at Rogers High School, and Corey Johnson, Technology and Music Teacher at Rogers High School.

“This year’s winners represent what is great about our public schools and our city,” said Kate Borgueta, president of the foundation. “It’s always amazing when members of our community and organizations take on the challenge of providing additional enriching experiences for our students. “

Parents, teachers and friends are all invited to attend the Fall Friends Drive to learn more about the Newport Public Education Foundation‘s direct and positive impact on Newport Public School students.

Tickets are $ 25 in advance and $ 30 at the door, and include hors d’oeuvres from Blackstone Catering and beer and wine from Fifth Ward Liquor. Tickets can be purchased online at bit.ly/2021FFR.

Note: This event will be held in accordance with the latest guidelines from the Rhode Island Department of Health, and the fluidity of the pandemic may require modification or postponement of the NPEF. All guests are strongly encouraged to be fully immunized or test negative for COVID-19 within 48 hours of the event.
