Youngstown and Mahoning County Public Library receives $ 171,000

The library purchased 50 new mobile Wi-Fi hotspots and 150 iPads. The funds will also be used to reimburse the library for its 144 existing mobile Wi-Fi hotspots and pay for data plans for the devices.
YOUNGSTOWN – The Youngstown and Mahoning County Public Library recently received $ 171,122 from the Electronic Connectivity Fund.
The library purchased 50 new mobile Wi-Fi hotspots and 150 iPads. The funds will also be used to reimburse the library for its 144 existing mobile Wi-Fi hotspots and pay for data plans for the devices.
The Electronic Connectivity Fund is a $ 7.17 billion program funded by the Federal Communications Commission to help libraries and schools bridge the digital divide by providing their communities with free technology and broadband connectivity.
“There is an incredible need for internet access and devices in our communities right now, and the library is working to fill the void,” said Aimee Fifarek, executive director and CEO of the library, in a statement. Press release. “This grant will help our clients connect from the comfort of their own homes for school, work, paying bills, connecting with family and friends and, of course, just for fun.”
In 2016, the library launched its free mobile Wi-Fi hotspot rental program that allows patrons to borrow a hotspot and use it at home. For more information on the program, click on here.
