U.S. Public Education: Fourth Quarter Results Overview

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. (AP) _ American Public Education Inc. (APEI) reported fourth-quarter net income of $9.4 million on Wednesday.

On a per-share basis, the Charles Town, West Virginia-based company said it had a net profit of 50 cents.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts polled by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 35 cents per share.

The for-profit education company posted revenue of $154 million during the period, also beating Street’s forecast. Four analysts polled by Zacks expected $152.1 million.

For the year, the company reported earnings of $17.8 million, or 97 cents per share. Revenue was reported at $418.8 million.


For the current quarter ending April, American Public Education said it expects revenue of between $155 million and $159 million.

US public education stocks are down nearly 6% year-to-date. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $20.94, a 28% drop in the past 12 months.
