Public consultation on ecodesign requirements for vacuum cleaners

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the ecodesign requirements for vacuum cleaners. This follows a call for contributions for an impact assessment, which ran from March 8 to April 5. The contributions from these two surveys will feed into the preparation of the draft act by the Commission. The adoption of this initiative is planned for the second half of 2023.
Background
In 2013, the EU passed Regulation 666/2013, which sets minimum energy efficiency requirements for vacuum cleaners. These measures have contributed to more efficient vacuum cleaners on the EU market, resulting in substantial energy savings for consumers.
In the light of technological progress, this initiative will now assess whether battery-powered vacuum cleaners and robot vacuum cleaners, which were initially excluded from this regulation, can be included in its scope. In addition, it will consider setting requirements for materials and evaluating the service life of vacuum cleaners.
The consultation is aimed at experts and representatives of all interested parties, such as manufacturers of household appliances, consumer and environmental organizations and companies involved in retail or repair. National representatives, including national authorities, are also invited to provide comments.
The feedback deadline for this consultation is 30 June.
