Opening of the public consultation for the review of the strategic rail network of all the islands
Residents of Northern Ireland and the Republic are invited to give their views on the future of rail as part of the Island-wide Rail Strategic Review.
Stormont Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon and Republic Minister of Transport Eamon Ryan said a key part of the review will be obtaining information from interested stakeholders and the general public.
Ms Mallon said: “Since taking office, I have made it clear that my priority is to tackle regional imbalances, tackle the climate crisis and better connect communities across Ireland.
“I have huge ambitions for our island-wide rail network and believe it has enormous untapped potential to deliver multiple benefits across our island.
“The Island-wide Rail Strategic Review will allow us to look at our network across this island to see how we can improve it for everyone. “
Mr Ryan said: “I am delighted to launch this public consultation on the future of rail on the island of Ireland.
“We want to hear people’s opinions on how rail can support social and economic development across the island, improve regional accessibility and improve connectivity between our major cities.
“I encourage all interested parties to participate in shaping the results of this important review. “
