Marathon County Public Library appoints new director
WAUSAU – After months of nationwide research, the Marathon County Public Library has found new direction.
The MCPL Board of Directors has chosen Leah Giordano as the new library director. Giordano accepted the position and officially took office on November 15, the library announced this week. Giordano had been acting director of the library since May 20. Its former manager Ralph Illick resigned his post in May after an investigation into inappropriate behavior at work and a hostile work environment.
“Leah brings with her a sincere passion for our library, a commitment to serving clients and the community, and has many new ideas on how to move the library forward,” said Sharon Hunter, Chair of the Board of Trustees of MCPL in a press release. “We are very pleased that she has accepted the position and is ready to continue serving the library. “
Giordano is originally from Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Oakland University with a BA in Communication and Public Relations and Wayne State University with an MA in Library and Information Science.
Prior to taking on the role of Acting Director of MCPL, Giordano served as Director of Library Services for the organization. Before moving to Wausau in 2014, she worked as Deputy Director of the Detroit Public Library and as Reference Librarian at the Eastpointe Memorial Library in Eastpointe, Michigan.
“During my time in the Greater Wausau area, I developed a deep affection for our community and developed a great relationship with the library staff. As director, I will be able to do even more to improve the educational and cultural experiences of the people who live here and move the library forward in a positive direction, ”Giordano said in the statement.
MCPL has nine locations in Marathon County: Athens, Edgar, Hatley, Marathon City, Mosinee, Rothschild, Spencer, Stratford and Wausau.
