Manhattan Beach Education Foundation wine auction raises nearly $ 800,000 for public education – Daily Breeze
For 27 years, the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation Wine Auction has brought the community together to raise funds for local public schools. This year’s annual food and wine celebration raised nearly $ 800,000 and culminated with a live auction on June 12 at the Manhattan Beach Country Club.
During the event, the foundation presented its 2021 Legacy Award to the Pipkin family. With seven children – and now several grandchildren – who grew up in Manhattan Beach, Jan and Chet Pipkin are longtime supporters of public education.
“We are honored to present the Legacy Award to Jan and Chet Pipkin for their support, as they were among the pioneers who committed to the mission of the MBEF early on,” said Scott Rosenthal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MBEF .
The main sponsors of the event were Chevron Corp., the Pipkin family, de Roos, the Disser & Sorensen families, Ellis Law Corp., Kinecta Federal Credit Union, Skechers Corp., Vista Sotheby’s International Realty and Molly and David Wright. In addition to the main event featuring selected wines, supporters had the opportunity to enter a raffle, bid on silent auction items, and purchase wine and dining experience packages.
The following South Bay restaurants and wineries have joined in offering food and wine pairings: Arthur J and Fairchild Napa Valley Winery; Slay Steak and Fish House and the Arrow and Branch winery; MB Post and Memento Mori winery; Slay Italian Kitchen and the vineyards of the Frias family; Petros and the Sanguis cellar; Nick’s Manhattan Beach and Epoch Estate Wines; and Love and Salt with wines from vineyards 7 and 8.
Guests also had the opportunity to participate in virtual tastings with one of the many winegrowers, distilleries or breweries. This year’s partners included Culture Brewing, Donelan Family Wines, Keplinger Wines, Laurel Glen Vineyard, Nosotros Tequila, Sojourn Cellars, Spa Girl Cocktails, Uncle Nearest and Zachys.
The silent auction raised more than $ 230,000 with a selection of 450 items. The live online auction raised $ 115,000 and included attractive packages including a wine tour to San Francisco and Napa Valley; a chef’s dinner and food and wine pairing at The Strand House; the annual President Emeritus Dinner at Redbird; a ski vacation in Taos Ski Valley; unique diamond jewelry and a wide selection of wines offered by the MBEF Wine Advisory Board.
