Los Alamos County Community Development Advisory Board Launches Public Education Campaign

County News:

The Los Alamos County Community Development Advisory Board (CDAB), in coordination with the Community Development Department (CDD) and Office of Communications and Public Relations, is launching its public education campaign next week.

The public education campaign includes a series of messages created to help the public better understand property maintenance issues in Los Alamos County, raise awareness in the community about the rewrite of Chapter 18 and portions of Chapter 16 of the county code, and to seek public comment on these matters.

The Board established the CDAB in May 2018 to make recommendations to the Board regarding the development, implementation, and enforcement of maintenance codes for county properties within the county’s corporate boundaries.

Board priorities include public awareness and education, with the goal of improving code compliance and a general understanding of the process throughout the community.

“Our goal is to educate the community on 1) current property maintenance codes; 2) how to participate in the rewrite of this important section of the local code; and 3) to learn how the application of these codes has affected residents (both positively and negatively),” said CDAB member Anna Dillane. “We want to hear from everyone, so rewriting the code reflects our needs as a community.”

Each educational message will be shared with the public via CDAB’s Facebook page, County Line newsletter, local media, NextDoor and the county website.

The Council plans to post one or two posts a week for several weeks, starting with an overview of who the Council is and how best to communicate with the Council and the County.

For questions or to share feedback, email [email protected].

The CDAB meets at 5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the council chambers. Meetings are open to the public. To learn more or get involved, visit https://losalamosnm.us/government/boards___commissions.
