“The objectives of the project are to realize the full potential of the land by integrating housing, education, recreation and accessible services in the area.”

The project, known as Te’tuxwtun, the traditional name for Mount Benson, will see three online community circle conversations take place: January 15, January 20 and January 23.

Registration is required with: lettalkhousingbc.ca/nanaimo-tetuxwtun.

An online survey is ongoing between January 3 and January 28 at: Community engagement Tetuxwtun (ethelo.net.

One of the project’s priorities, beyond affordable rental housing, includes a new location for the school district’s Learning Alternatives program.

Funding for the initiative was announced in 2020. It is a partnership between BC Housing, Snuneymuxw First Nation, the City of Nanaimo and Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools.

“When to start construction will depend on how long it takes to complete the rezoning and also to obtain any other necessary permits,” BC Housing said.
