Gwinnett County Public Library is one of 10 across the country testing an escape game
The Gwinnett County Public Library is offering patrons a new experience in its programming – the ability to beta test an online escape game.
The library system is one of 10 across the country outside of Washington state testing the Euphorigen investigative escape room created by University of Washington researchers. The game was first tested by libraries in Washington State.
During the game, participants use Zoom to play in groups of four to six players.
“They work their way through a series of puzzles in the virtual escape room,” said Victoria Hopkins, director of marketing and communications for GCPL, who noted that the game typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes. depending on how quickly the participants solve the puzzles. “There is then a short debriefing session to collect customer feedback on their gaming experience. This anonymous feedback will be shared with the University of Washington so that they can best improve the game.”
The game is intended for participants aged 14 and over who will need to consent to allow the university to record the game. Players will need access to a desktop or laptop computer with a camera and microphone, an internet connection capable to use Zoom and one of the three Internet browsers: Chrome, Firefox or Edge. Players will not be able to use school email accounts to register.
The game’s description reads: “For years a supplement called ‘Euphorigen’ has been used by the very wealthy to boost brain activity and productivity. Today the government wants to bring the benefits of Euphorigen within reach. of everyone by introducing it into the public water supply. The company that makes Euphorigen says it has successfully completed the trials, and an announcement of the deal is expected shortly. But your investigator friend has suspicions and has heard that a prominent scientist has recorded a statement on whether or not to believe the company’s claims and has asked for your help in finding and sharing this information with the public. an hour to research all the information you can about Euphorigen to uncover the truth and spread the word!”

- 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1
- 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 9
- 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 15
- 5 p.m. Monday, March 21
