The Ministry of Education provided e-learning gadgets to learners and teachers in various regions of northern Luzon to support the mobilization of the Public Education Network (PEN).

IN its continued construction of the Public Education Network (PEN), the Department of Education (DepEd) has provided e-learning gadgets to learners and teachers in various parts of northern Luzon.

During the EduAksyon sa Norte virtual tour on April 29, the department handed over 2,972 smartphones and 82 laptops to selected learners and teachers from regions 1, 2, 3 and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

PEN is the ministry’s program to accelerate digital connectivity of all public schools and DepEd offices nationwide and enables learners to have wider access to DepEd TV, DepEd Commons and other platforms of DepEd. learning. On April 16, DepEd partnered with the Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DICT) to strengthen education delivery through broadcasting, connectivity and digital security through the PEN program.

After the official ceremony, the Information and Communication Technology Service (ICTS) organized a training workshop for teachers and ICT coordinators on e-book development using Kotobee and AppsGeyser from April 29 to 30.

Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones highlighted the education sector’s transition to technology and the need to prioritize last mile schools in this initiative.

“I keep saying that with or without the Covid-19 pandemic, we are already moving towards technology. It is not something that is isolated from the rest of the country and the rest of the world. All other agencies are moving towards the use of technology for a variety of reasons, ”Secretary Briones said.

DepEd-CAR received 1,218 smartphones and 34 laptops for 1,218 learners and 75 teachers, while DepEd-Ilocos accepted 394 smartphones and 13 laptops for their 394 learners and 27 teachers.

The Director of the Office of Learner Support Services (BLSS) Lope Santos 3e and the Head of the Youth Training Division (YFD) Adolf Aguilar led the distribution of the gadgets.

This initiative and the PEN program are led by the Information and Communications Technologies Service headed by Director AbramAbanil, under the Administration component headed by Undersecretary Alain Del Pascua and Deputy Secretary Salvador Malana III. It is part of the framework of the Administration of Public Schools of the Future (PSOF) component under the direction of Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones.
