Bozeman Public Library plans $ 4.5 million expansion
BOZEMAN – It’s no secret that the town of Bozeman is growing, resulting in a need for growth in our services, including the Bozeman Public Library.
Our local library has long been considering expanding their building, says Jen Shoemaker, although our beautiful space is still considered the new building.
Shoemaker is the communications and development officer of the Bozeman Public Library Foundation, with the aim of providing financial support to help the library provide more services and programs.
The current Bozeman Public Library building was constructed in 2006, and since then the community around them has grown by about 20,000 residents, according to Shoemaker.
“The library is for everyone. We don’t turn people away, everyone is welcome and that’s what is so beautiful about a library, ”said Shoemaker. “We hope to be able to develop this library with this modest expansion to serve us for years to come. “
A $ 4.5 million expansion will entail a renovation of the community hall, the entrance to the library itself, the central library core, as well as some upgrades upstairs. The architects working on this project are from MSR Design, which specializes in the design of bookcases.
The community hall, as well as the Montana hall upstairs, will be expanded to double its capacity and provide space for larger events and programs.
The entrance will remain a passage, with the addition of two separate laboratories. These labs will host cooking demonstrations, crafting events, art classes and many other activities.
The central library hub will have a “community forward” vision. A coffee station, suitable for the used bookstore and a different arrangement of book selections will invite everyone to tune in, Shoemaker said.
Finally, the first floor will host a variety of meeting rooms and quiet spaces for those who want a serene environment. Shoemaker says breathtaking views of the Bridgers, along with an open floor plan, will bring Bozeman’s Public Library into the modern era.
Funded by private donors and grants, the Bozeman Public Library is not funded by taxpayer dollars and will be planning a fundraising campaign for the future.
Right now, the library has raised $ 3.7 million, with just under $ 1 million to go. This renovation has been underway for a long time, and it is exciting to see it finally take shape, said the shoemaker.
A group of 1,200 people were asked for their thoughts, ideas and opinions on expanding the library, and there’s a chance your voice will be heard.
“From 4 pm to 6 pm on September 16, in the main library plaza, the architects of MSR design will come out so they can hear the public say what they want to see from these spaces,” Shoemaker said.
