Alidi plans to present plans for a new store in Macduff

The Aldi supermarket chain, which is making proposals for a new store on Duff Street in Macduff, is asking the public for their comments on the project.

If approved, it would see the first Aldi delivered to the region and represent a £ 3.27million investment in the city.

It will create up to 35 local jobs within the store, as well as new jobs during construction and within Aldi’s supply chain.

Due to the current situation regarding the coronavirus, it has not been possible for Aldi to organize traditional public exhibitions.

Aldi will therefore organize an online consultation which is now open and will run until September 29, where anyone interested in the proposals can consult and above all respond with comments to the project team on the development.

The online consultation will be complemented by an interactive question-and-answer session with Aldi and the project team to be held on Wednesday September 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. via Zoom.

Philip Johnston, Aldi’s Property Manager for Scotland, said: ‘I have long aspired to bring our award winning discount offer to the area and it was great to be able to discuss our plans with representatives from the community council earlier this year.

“I am now delighted to present the proposals and launch the public consultation. “

“The store is designed to meet the shopping needs of residents not only living in the local area, but more importantly to add additional choice for residents as well as to conserve local expenses that may have been lost to other areas.

“While it may not be possible to meet in person at this time due to Covid-19, we are monitoring the current situation and should circumstances change we would be happy to have the opportunity to add in-person sessions to our counseling program “.

“We look forward to working with the residents of Macduff and surrounding towns so that they have the opportunity to view and, most importantly, provide feedback on the proposals. “

As a result of the online consultation, it is expected that a planning application for the new store which is expected to include 106 parking spaces will be lodged with Aberdeenshire Council in the fall, the new premises, if they are approved, will open and welcome buyers in October. 2023.
